[about]

Monika Jones is an award-winning freelance writer and up-and-coming academic. As of September 2011, Monika is located in sunny San Diego, California. She writes about everything from bicycle travel to labor policy and gender.

In 2006, Monika arrived in Budapest as the honored beneficiary of a Rotary Ambassadorial Fellowship, which she received after graduating from the University of Washington in her blue and green hometown of Seattle, WA. She arrived with one suitcase, a Hungarian dictionary and an eagerness to live out-of-context.

After completing her Masters in Arts and Masters in Philosophy in Gender Studies at Central European University, Monika is now studying for her PhD in the communications department at University of California, San Diego. Her focus is on online social work platforms and the changing nature of content production in media.

She has previously worked as staff writer and director of community development for the All Hungary Media Group's network of websites and blogs. After, she spent a year living and writing in the pulsing historic megacity, Istanbul, Turkey. Monika also has experience in marketing, public relations and copywriting.

Monika has stepped foot in 27 countries, and counting. She first learned to love her feet during the nine years she danced classical ballet. Though these days she is more apt to be doing yoga or riding a bicycle.
